On Tuesday, the Amherst Madison towboat Ohio floated through the Tri-State area, upbound on the Ohio River, with three barges hauling what appeared to be production equipment for the Nucor Steel West Virginia mill under construction at Apple Grove, Mason County.
Company officials did not respond to a query about the equipment, but the covers on the material bore the logo of Danieli, an Italian company that Nucor relies on for equipment at its mills. The $4 billion mill is scheduled to be completed and in production before the end of 2026.
