Police stand at the front of the Richmond Road Baptist Church as other officers maintain a perimeter following a shooting at the church in Lexington, Ky., Sunday, July 13, 2025.
Two women were killed in a shooting at a Lexington, Kentucky, church in a shooting rampage that began after a state trooper was shot and wounded, authorities said. The suspect was also killed Sunday. In a news conference, Lexington Police Chief Lawrence Weathers says it began after the trooper pulled over a vehicle near the airport. After shooting the trooper, the suspect carjacked a vehicle and fled to the church where they began shooting at people there. The suspect was later killed by Lexington police.
The man accused of killing two women at a Kentucky church and wounding a state trooper in separate shootings had been expected in court for a domestic violence hearing the next day. Guy House was fatally shot by police on Sunday at Richmond Road Baptist Church. The Lexington Herald-Leader reported that House went to the church looking for the mother of his children, but his domestic violence hearing on Monday did not involve her. Authorities say he also wounded two men in the rampage, which began when House shot the trooper during a traffic stop near Lexington’s airport. The shootings remain under investigation.
