Capitol Market is turning up the heat for the return of "All Fired Up."
The kids cooking competition will kick off this year's ÂÒÂ×ÄÚÉä Sternwheel Regatta on Thursday, July 3. The competition, which pits young chefs against one another in a battle to see who can cook the best backyard BBQ, is a free, family-friendly event.Â
“All Fired Up is one of our favorite events of the year because it puts young people in the driver’s seat. They plan the menu, shop local, and take full ownership of what they create,†says Evan Osborn, executive director of Capitol Market. “The results are always amazing. It’s an inspiring reminder of what our community’s youth are capable of."Â
The event will be held on July 3 from noon to 3 p.m. at Capitol Market. It is open for the public to attend and will feature up to 8 young chefs, who will be selected through a competitive process.Â
Kids from the ages of 10-17 who are interested in competing can register here: https://hi.switchy.io/letsgetfiredupcm. Registrants are encouraged to share their story through photos, video and text.
Each kid-led team receives a $100 Capitol Market gift card and one hour to shop for fresh, local ingredients. Afterward, they have two hours to prepare a meal using a grill provided on-site. A panel of local celebrity chefs will award prizes, including handcrafted glass from West Virginia’s own Blenko Glass Company, for categories "Best Overall," "Best Use of Local Ingredients," and "Most Creative Dish."Â
