Kanawha County officials joined area leaders in Institute Monday to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the Shawnee Sports Complex.
“In five years, and taking into consideration one of those years was 2020, Shawnee has made a significant impact,†Kanawha County Commissioner Ben Salango said in a news release. “Over $130 million in economic impact from events both hosted and created at Shawnee.â€
The Shawnee Sports Complex, constructed in 15 months at a cost of $17 million, opened July 10, 2018. The facility features turfed fields for football, soccer, lacrosse, baseball and softball.
“I am proud of all the success Shawnee has seen so far and know there will be a lot more to celebrate in the next five years,†Kanawha County Commission President Kent Carper said.
To celebrate the anniversary, Shawnee offered free admission to its swimming pool on Monday.
“It’s no surprise to me the statistics provided by the ÂÒÂ×ÄÚÉä Convention & Visitor’s Bureau on behalf of Shawnee,†said Commissioner Lance Wheeler. “Those numbers reflect the continued hard work and dedication of the staff and the vision the Commission had for the Complex.â€
