The United States of America has lost its way. Before our eyes, the Constitution is quivering in death throes, the legendary checks and balances between the three branches of government gone. Recent events illustrate the rich and powerful are exempt from the rule of law for the most contemptible of crimes.
The conservative political party has been hijacked in a hostile takeover by an absolute and insatiable demagogue embracing fear, intimidation, prejudice, grievance and openly and enthusiastically advocating revenge and retribution against perceived enemies. The takeover has been supported by an anger entertainment media empire and supplanted by clumsy but effective and ongoing foreign counterintelligence operations, the whole business designed to reel in the marginally educated and the shallow mind. Let it be remembered that Vladimir Putin’s forte as a KGB operative was counterintelligence.
There are nascent concentration camp and secret police systems, with both recently receiving substantial funding to provide for exponential growth in the coming months. With history as a backdrop, the conduct of such entities and the inevitable end game cannot be ignored.
There is an official disdain, and even contempt, for knowledge, learning, science, mathematics, history and literature; the very attributes that bring growth and greatness to a society. In the place of academic pursuits is a handheld electronic screen, capable of discerning the genre of information desired, and then delivering a steady diet of that information in snippets, requiring virtually no profound train of thought for absorption. Like the anger entertainment and foreign counterintelligence, the smartphone is designed to find harbor with the marginally educated and the shallow mind.
In the span of six unhinged and bizarre months, political, economic and diplomatic alliances decades old, and in the case of our northern neighbor, two centuries old, have been unceremoniously shredded. Additionally, adoration and worship of oppressive foreign regimes have been embraced by the highest levels of the federal government.
Wrapping up this whole sorry package is an obscene gap in wealth among the populace, with the added absurdity of those making $5,000 per hour having convinced those making $40 per hour that the people making $8 per hour are the problem.
The oldest trick in the book among despots and tyrants is to divide and keep divided the people along whatever lines are available -- wealth, education, race, ethnicity, religion -- thereby preventing the people from coalescing together against the despot or tyrant.
One of Adolf Hitler’s prime tenets was to never let the people go calm. It is the deliberate ongoing fragmentation of society for the benefit of those at the top. As the people are fighting among themselves, the despot or tyrant, accompanied by their lieutenants, steal the public wealth, treasury, resources and soul. The current despot and his gang are masters of that game.
The essential first step to get out of this quagmire is to wake up to what’s happening and what’s being done to us, and for that task, time is short. Without that realization, we face a continuing downward spiral to mediocracy, a loss of any semblance of enlightened government, and the depths of fascism, with its terrors and horrors. Fascism is the evil our fathers and grandfathers fought against in World War II.
Those who have knowledge of history, who have studied history, are aware of the alarming parallels between Germany in the 1930s and present-day America.
