A high-energy rock and roll oldies band with 30 years of experience tops the bill for entertainment at Nitro’s Boomtown Days festival this weekend.
From 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14, Santa Cruz will perform, followed by fireworks 15 minutes later.
Prior to the Santa Cruz, local band Stephanie Stacy & the Aftermath will perform a mixture of country and rock music from 4 to 6 p.m.
The day’s musical entertainment will begin with the Barn Hollow Band from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., followed by the Bluegrass Revival from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. All of the entertainment will occur on the stage at Living Memorial Park, 112 21st St. in Nitro.
“We are glad to have these local musical acts to be a part of the Nitro celebration,†Nitro Mayor Dave Casebolt said in a media release.
Also, during the Boomtown Days festival, approximately 200 antique cars, hot rods and specialty vehicles are expected to line up along Second Avenue as the Nitro Antique Car Club holds its 57th Annual Antique Car Show on Sept. 13 and 14.
The Doughboy/Tudor’s 5K race will take place starting at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Living Memorial Park.
There will be a Kids’ Fun Zone, throughout the day, across from the park.
Starting at 4 p.m. on Saturday, an all-you-can-eat Italian feast will be provided at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. Meals are $10 each; proceeds will benefit the Nitro Mission Team.
Also on Saturday, the City of Nitro commemorative print, created by artist and South ÂÒÂ×ÄÚÉä Middle School art teacher Jenna Reed Hill, will be unveiled. She will attend the unveiling to discuss her work and answer any questions.
Hill created her series to pay homage to the small cities that many call home in the region.
“The various structures and scenes in the Nitro print are extremely unique and it does a great job of telling the city’s history through art,†Casebolt said.
Hill has already produced prints for St. Albans and South ÂÒÂ×ÄÚÉä and will be producing one of ÂÒÂ×ÄÚÉä after the sale of the Nitro prints. The Nitro series will have 100 available for sale; nearly half have already been pre-sold.
During the event, Casebolt and Kim Reed, executive director of the Nitro Development Authority will be presenting framed prints to 10 businesses that have been operating in the city for more than 50 years.
The limited-edition print will be available for sale at Boomtown Days and afterward, while supplies last, at Nitro City Hall and the Nitro Development Authority/CVB office. The cost of a print is $45 at the event.
