A man is dead following a shooting at a residence in the 700 block of Grace Avenue, in the Edgewood neighborhood of ÂÒÂ×ÄÚÉä.
Police said in a news release Thursday morning that Chrishawn Perkins died at a local hospital after a dispute with his girlfriend at the Grace Avenue residence.
According to Metro 911 dispatchers, the call was reported at 2:45 a.m. Thursday.
Police said Perkins, 32, of ÂÒÂ×ÄÚÉä, and his girlfriend were invited by an acquaintance to the residence.
“During the night, the acquaintance overheard a heated argument between Mr. Perkins and his girlfriend,†according to the news release said.
The argument was over the girlfriend allegedly stealing items from Perkins.
Multiple times during the argument, “Mr. Perkins grabbed a firearm and threatened to kill his girlfriend,†police said in the release. “His girlfriend and the acquaintance convinced Mr. Perkins to place the gun on the table, which he did. A short time later, Mr. Perkins again started attacking his girlfriend and then started physically fighting the acquaintance. The girlfriend picked up the firearm and fired one shot at Mr. Perkins, fatally striking him.â€
The news release states that the girlfriend was transported to a local hospital and is being treated for multiple injuries sustained in the altercation. She is in stable condition.
It is unclear who owns the gun used in the shooting.
The case was turned over to the Kanawha County Prosecutor’s Office for further review. No charges had been filed at press time.
This is the fifth reported homicide in ÂÒÂ×ÄÚÉä and 10th in Kanawha County in 2024.
