Dementia Friendly St. Albans’ monthly Alzheimer’s/dementia support group meets from 3 to 4 p.m. on the second Wednesday of every month at the Hansford Center, 500 Washington St., St. Albans.

Marmet Monument Meeting
At 5:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4, a community monument planning meeting will get underway at the George Buckley Community Center, 8505 MacCorkle Ave., Marmet.
The West Virginia Mine Wars Museum, in partnership with the United Mine Workers of America, is working on a new public history project, and Marmet officials are planning to create monuments to honor the contributions that unionist miners made to American history, focusing on the route of the Miner’s March to Blair Mountain in 1921. Each monument will be unique to the location based on the individual community’s needs, stories and input, tied together with overarching themes, features and design. The first two monuments will be dedicated in August in Marmet and Sharples.

‘Paradise Park’

St. Albans Historical Society
The St. Albans Historical Society will have its winter meeting at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 13, at 404 Fourth Ave. in St. Albans. The topic will be “The Mohler House,†with slides and discussions. Dues are due at this time.

Winter Blues Farmers Market
The West Virginia University Extension Service and the West Virginia Department of Agriculture will host the 2022 Winter Blues Farmers Market from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 26, at the ÂÒÂ×ÄÚÉä Coliseum and Convention Center.
Free Compost
The City of ÂÒÂ×ÄÚÉä is giving away free compost at its compost facility on Hanna Drive from 7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday through Friday through March 31. The compost facility will be closed on all holidays. Operators will be available to help load the compost, but compost recipients must bring their own trucks or trailers. According to a City of ÂÒÂ×ÄÚÉä release, there is no limit to how much compost individuals and businesses can pick up.

S.A. Community Walks
Community walks in St. Albans start at 7 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday. The group meets at the corner of Washington and Hudson streets behind St. Albans High School.

Silent Book Club
The ÂÒÂ×ÄÚÉä Chapter of the Silent Book Club meets on the second Saturday of each month from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Daily Dose Cafe, 5206-1/2 MacCorkle Ave., S.E., Kanawha City.
This BYOB (Bring Your Own Book) club offers opportunities to meet like-minded book people and have some silent reading time. Participants read silently for 90 minutes and then have book-related small talk for 30 minutes before ending the meeting. All types of reading material are accepted (ebooks, audiobooks [requires headphones], manga, graphic novels, print books, comic books, magazines, newspapers, textbooks, etc.).
