BridgeValley Community and Technical College in South ÂÒÂ×ÄÚÉä will host an open house to introduce the Workforce Initiative for Nurses – the WIN Academy – at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 25.
The new charter school provides an accelerated nursing degree program for up to 60 high school juniors and seniors who are focused on a career in nursing.
BVCTC will accept up to 60 high school students — 30 juniors and 30 seniors — into the degree program designed for students to complete high school and their first year of nursing school simultaneously.
After high school graduation, students will be automatically enrolled in BVCTC’s nursing program and will need just one more year to complete their associate degree and sit for the NCLEX-RN licensing exam.
The program is subject to approval by the West Virginia RN Board.
According to the BVCTC website, the West Virginia Professional Charter School Board approved the Workforce Initiative for Nurses Academy by a unanimous vote on Nov. 23.
“We’re thrilled to offer high school students focused on nursing an accelerated path to West Virginia’s nursing workforce,†BVCTC President Dr. Casey Sacks said on the school’s website. “With the expansion of our nursing wing and state-of-the-art facilities, we are perfectly positioned to welcome WIN Academy students and are excited for the upcoming school year.â€
