CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WV News) — State leaders issued messages honoring the service and sacrifice of West Virginia's military heroes.Â
Gov. Jim Justice, Senator Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., and Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., and Rep. Carol Miller, R-W.Va., all issued statements commemorating the nation's 68th annual observance of Veterans Day
"Nov. 11 is only one day — but a day that signifies just how important our veterans really are," said Justice. "But we should think of them everyday."
The governor encouraged West Virginans to spend time with the veterans in their lives.Â
"I challenge, and I ask, each one of you in each and every way, today take time," he said. "Whether it be a granddad or a brother or sister, whoever it may be, take time to acknowledge someone in our military today, especially our veterans."Â
“As Americans defended the United States, our allies and the values we hold dear throughout the last century, West Virginia service members never balked and bravely led the way," Manchin said.
"I always say that West Virginia is one of the most patriotic states in the nation, and this Veterans Day Gayle and I urge all West Virginians to reflect on the men and women whose sacrifices prove that America is a nation worth fighting for. As one of the states with the highest veterans per capita, West Virginians know what it takes to protect our great country."
