Absentee ballots were mailed out beginning Sept. 20.
According to a news release from the Secretary of State’s Office, the deadline to apply for an absentee ballot is the close of business on Oct. 30. But eligible voters should apply as soon as possible “to ensure any delays in the Postal Service do not affect their ability to vote.â€
Eligibility to vote absentee in West Virginia requires you to meet three basic criteria:
Confinement, which includes incarceration or a hospital or nursing home stay. ±·´Ç³Ù±ð:ÌýConvicted felons cannot vote until they complete parole/probation requirements.
Not being present in the county during in-person voting
Nov. 4: Deadline for hand-delivered absentee ballot to the clerk’s office
Nov. 5: Absentee ballots received electronically from eligible voters accepted (absentee ballots submitted electronically by eligible military and overseas voters and eligible voters with physical disabilities are accepted by close of polls)
Nov. 6: Absentee ballots without postmark accepted
Nov. 12: Absentee ballots postmarked by Election Day accepted
Voters who utilize an absentee ballot can also track that ballot online via the Secretary of State’s office. Similarly, provisional ballots can also be tracked though the Secretary of State's office. Provisional ballots are cast in situations where a voter's ballot is challenged for a variety of reasons which can include not having proper identification at the polling location; issues with a signature on the poll book not matching the one on the registration card; registration record not available when voting.Â
Election Day voting
Registered voters may also cast their ballot on election day, with polling locations open across the state from 6:30 a.m. - 7:30 p.m., Nov. 5.Â
The deadline to register to vote in the general election was Oct. 15.Â
