With the primary election in West Virginia just more than a month away, candidates for ÂÒÂ×ÄÚÉä At-Large City Council gathered at the Clay Center’s Walker Theater on Wednesday to discuss their visions for the city’s future.

Capital Conversation with ÂÒÂ×ÄÚÉä City Council

About 80 people turned out for the 2026 Capital Conversation candidates forum, on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at the Clay Center's Walker Theater. On the stage are (from left) WCHS-TV's Jacob Peklo, ÂÒÂ×ÄÚÉä Urban Works' Ric Cavender, ÂÒÂ×ÄÚÉä City Council member Emmett Pepper, challenger Patricia Smith, council member Shawn Taylor, challenger Jason Gibson, and challenger Gina Grigoraci. The candidates are all running for at-large seats on City Council.

Hosted by ÂÒÂ×ÄÚÉä Urban Works, in partnership with WCHS-TV and Fox Appalachia, the “Capital Conversation†candidate forum featured 10 Democratic candidates and one Republican. Two Republican candidates — Will Pack and Fred Joseph — were not in attendance, nor was Democrat Patrick Salango.
