ENTRIES: Marshall University School of Art and Design offers a call for entries for the 15th annual National Juried Exhibition, which is displayed Jan. 5–Feb. 5, 2026, at Charles W. and Norma C. Carroll Gallery in the university’s Visual Arts Center, 927 3rd Ave. Artists age 18 and older living in the United States may submit up to three original artworks in any media. Entries must be submitted/posted online by 11:59 p.m. Oct. 25. Erika B. Hess, nationally exhibited painter, creator of the podcast I Like Your Work, and artistic director of Visual Arts at the Chautauqua Institution, is juror. THREE IN ONE: YWCA ÂÒÂ×ÄÚÉä recently hosted “An Evening with Tara Roberts†who spoke and enjoyed a reception at Katherine “Kitty†Dooley Community Center for Community Enrichment. Roberts is a storyteller, explorer and historian, as well as a groundbreaker and a National Geographic Explorer-in-Residence and the first Black, female explorer ever to be featured on the magazine’s cover. Last but not least, she was named Rolex National Geographic Explorer of the Year in 2022. She recently released a book, “Written in the Waters: A Memorial of History, Home, and Belonging†and joined Diving With a Purpose diving group. The well-rounded individual of many interests has also been editor of several magazines and known as a storyteller.
WORKSHOPS: “Basic Photographic Techniques,†“Intermediate Photographic Techniques†and “Advanced Photographic Techniques,†all open to ages 18 and older and instructed by Larry Rees, begin this week at Huntington Museum of Art. The basic, but intensive workshop featuring six sessions, is offered from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays, Sept. 9 through Oct. 14, in Studio 3. The intermediate class is from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays, Sept. 10 through Oct. 15 in Studio 3. The advanced session is from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursdays, Sept. 11 through Oct. 16, in Studio 3. BLOOM AND BREW: Mason jar bouquets using fresh, locally grown flowers are designed with guidance from the Muddy Mountain Flower Farm from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10, at Valley Park, Hurricane, West Virginia.
