Scottie Scheffler is back to his dominant self. The world's No. 1 player took a two-shot lead and turned into a blowout at the FedEx St. Jude Championship. He shot a 66 and won by eight shots over Si Woo Kim. That's the largest margin of victory at the TPC Southwind in its 68-year history. Kim shot 68. Scheffler not only won $3.6 million, he clinched a $23 million bonus for being No. 1 in the FedEx Cup through next week's BMW Championship. Sungjae Im was the only player to move into the top 50 to advance in the postseason.
LIV Golf says it has a lead investor that will allow the league to plan ahead for 2027 and beyond. The rival league has been in survival mode since March when the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia announced it would no longer pay for LIV after 2026. Saudi money is what allowed the league to pay nine-figure bonuses to lure top players away from the PGA Tour and created $20 million purses. LIV CEO Scott O'Neil did not identify the lead investor. But he says the new league would have players as majority equity holders.
Billy Horschel was full of optimism at the start of the year. He comes to the final event of the PGA Tour's regular season outside the top 100 in the FedEx Cup and with no guarantees of keeping his full card. The tour preaches balance and meritocracy and that much is evident. Chris Gotterup has more wins than Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy combined. Three of the majors champions were ranked outside the top 30. That hasn't happened in 17 years. And it's been three months since anyone inside the top 10 in the world won on the PGA Tour.
