Rivalry games take center stage as conference play continues in Tri-State high school football.
Welcome back to “At the Game,†a feature we're producing on high school football game nights to keep readers in the loop of what's going on across the area, in as close to real time as we can manage.
Nitro and Herbert Hoover have established themselves amongst the top of the Cardinal Conference of late. They’ll hook up on Friday night in Elkview, while Spring Valley and Huntington renew acquaintances in one of the fiercest rivalries in the Tri-State.
St. Albans-Riverside, George Washington-Cabell Midland and Parkersburg-Hurricane are Mountain State Athletic Conference fixtures set for Friday. Mingo Central-Wayne is no longer a Cardinal Conference showdown, with both having vacated the league, but they figure to play to a rousing atmosphere, both looking to protect undefeated starts. Winfield and South ÂÒÂ×ÄÚÉä isn't a rivalry game, per se, but has some interesting storylines in play.
Spring Valley bullies its way to a lead
Zeke Lewis scored on a 6-yard touchdown run to cap an 11-play, 74-yard drive, all on the ground. Brady Chesire kicked the extra point to give Spring Valley a 7-0 lead over Huntington High.
Huskies strike first
Blake Fisher with a 4-yard TD run on Herbert Hoover's first drive made it 6-0 and Nitro blocked the extra point with 8:04 to play in the opening period.
GW-Midland postponed
No power at Cabell Midland has forced the postponement of George Washington-Cabell Midland to a TBD time and date.
Our goal is to get you real-time updates on this page from as many of these games as possible, pending availability of Wi-Fi or signal to get them posted.
