ÂÒÂ×ÄÚÉä’s men and Glenville State women’s golf teams were voted as the top teams in the Mountain East Conference by the league’s coaches in a poll released on Friday.
The Golden Eagles and Pioneers both won the MEC last season.
On the men’s side, UC received nine of the 10 first-place votes in the league. Davis & Elkins was picked to finish second.
Both the Golden Eagles and Senators earned spots in the NCAA Division II tournament with Davis & Elkins winning the Atlantic/East Region.
Glenville State was picked for third in the league. Fairmont State, which received one first-place vote, was picked to finish in a tie for fourth with West Virginia Wesleyan.
West Liberty, Concord, Wheeling, West Virginia State and Point Park rounded out the preseason poll.
For the women’s golfers, Glenville received five of the eight first-place votes. UC, which finished second in the MEC last season, was picked second in the preseason poll after receiving two first-place votes.
Fairmont State, which received one vote for first place, was picked to finish third. FSU was followed by Davis & Elkins, West Liberty, Wheeling, Concord and West Virginia Wesleyan.
DIRTY BIRDS 6, REVOLUTION 5: Demetrius Moorer’s single in the top of the 10th gave ÂÒÂ×ÄÚÉä an extra-innings victory on Friday at York.
The RBI for Moorer helped relief pitcher Reibyn Corona earn the victory. Corona surrendered a tying run in the bottom of the ninth.
Keon Barnum led the Dirty Birds, going 3 for 4 at the plate with 3 RBIs. James Nelson was 2 for 4 with his 29th home run of the season.
The game began a three-game series in York.
Prep golf
GEORGE WASHINGTON 146, WINFIELD 158: The Patriots, led by Eli Amburgey’s 34, defeated the Generals in a nine-hole dual match Thursday at Edgewood Country Club.
Amburgey was followed by Chastyn Viars’ 36. William Johnson and Maddox Fox each shot a 38 for GW.
Winfield’s team score on the par-34 course was led by Gavin Martin’s second place finish at 35. He was followed by Jackson Webb (40), Owen Taylor (41) and Lucas Hall (42).
