LOGAN -- Logan is 2-0 on the gridiron for the first time since 2022 as the Wildcats limited mistakes on both sides of the ball and outlasted multiple lightning delays to power to a 46-0 home victory over River View (1-1) on Friday night.
The Wildcats only needed 91 seconds to find the end zone for the first time, with quarterback Adam Baisden finding a wide open Zo Murphy for a 57-yard pitch-and-catch on the game’s opening drive.
Leading 6-0, the Wildcats quickly came up with another big play as Mason Spence dove to secure an interception that handed the ball back to Logan on the Raiders' 25-yard line.
Sophomore standout Lucas Lambert capped that short drive by powering a 9-yard rush through multiple Raider defenders and diving across the goal line to provide a 13-0 lead at the 6:46 mark of the first stanza.
Following a series of setbacks due to massive streaks of lightning flashing above the island, the game’s next score came with 8:53 remaining in the first half, when Lambert broke free on a bubble screen-turned-56-yard touchdown to put the Wildcats ahead 20-0.
Lambert then scored his third touchdown of the contest for the last points of the first half after hauling in a well-placed deep jump ball from Baisden that ended up as a 63-yard score to provide a 27-0 Wildcat lead at the half.
Logan didn’t run into trouble the rest of the way and added third-quarter scores in the form of a 35-yard touchdown reception from Gage Green, a 54-yard fumble recovery touchdown from Spence and a 3-yard rushing touchdown from Caleb Johnson that solidified the 46-0 blowout as the Wildcat defense held strong.
Baisden tossed four touchdowns and didn’t throw an interception in the contest.
Lambert’s three touchdowns served as a game high and brought him to five on the early season.
“That is a first. I have never been a part of three weather delays,†Logan first-year coach Nick Booth said. “I was proud of our kids because we kind of had to come back and juice ourselves up after the delays. They were able to answer.â€
Booth was impressed by Logan's effort on both sides of the ball.
“We executed on offense. When we took shots, we didn’t miss on them this week. We missed on a couple at Man last week, so I’m pretty happy with that," he said. “Defensively, we were lights-out. Our defensive line played great and our linebackers played great. We didn’t give up anything deep; our corners came up and tackled. I was pretty pleased. I may watch film and say something else, but right now I am happy. Any time you win 46-0, you are pleased.â€
Limiting penalties was a big focus for the Wildcats to build on last week's victory at rival Man.
“Off the top of my head, there were only two flags,†Booth said. “We are pleased with that. There was nothing major, no personal fouls or anything like that. I am pretty pleased with how we cleaned that up this week.â€
Booth hopes Logan carries this momentum forward into a tough matchup at Tug Valley (1-1) next Friday.
“We will go to Tug Valley next week. That is another tough place to go with people right on top of you. It will be the only time I think that we are on grass all year," Booth said. "That will be a little adjustment for our guys. We will go out here on the front lawn and chuck it around this week to get used to running on grass. We will go down there and hopefully we can roll out 3-0 and keep this thing going."
River View coach Gary Roach also shared his thoughts following the game.

“Right off the bat, we had players leaving jerseys in the locker room and forgetting cleats and helmets. I could have told you how this game was going to go,†he said. “Hats off to Logan, they are going to be a good team. They are young and the seniors they do have lead by example. It was just bad before the game even started and the weather didn’t do anything to help us either. Logan had to play in it too. They will be a good team this year.â€
River View is back in action at Hurley (Virginia).
“We have a rivalry game, so hopefully that gets them up a little bit. It is just another opportunity to get back on the winning side," Roach said. "We would be 2-1 and back on track. We told them that Logan would be a playoff team. They have a good staff and the head coach they had last year had them going in the right direction. That is going to be a good team. We just have to fix our mistakes."
