MORGANTOWN -- The NCAA has filed an appeal seeking to overturn the temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction granted to four West Virginia University football players which awarded them eligibility for the 2025 football season.
The appeal does not, at this point, reverse that decision, meaning that as of now, the four players -- Jimmori Robinson, Jeffrey Weimer, Tye Edwards and Justin Harrington -- are still eligible to practice with and play for WVU.
That, of course, could change at any moment if the court makes another ruling or hears additional arguments from the NCAA.
WVU continues to emphasize that it is not a plaintiff in this case, and as such will not be commenting on developments.
The case is one of many, spread across four district courts, seeking additional years of eligibility for players who participated in junior college or lower divisions of the NCAA, maintaining that those should not count against their five-year eligibility clocks.
Rulings in other jurisdictions could carry some weight in this case (and vice versa) but one ruling does not legally bind other jurisdictions from ruling in a similar manner.
The case involving WVU players has been appealed to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit. Other cases across the nation are being appealed in the 3rd, 6th and 9th Circuits.
