West Virginia's men's basketball team received its most highly ranked commitment of the young Ross Hodge era when Amir Jenkins pledged to the Mountaineers on Tuesday evening.
Tipton Edits was first with the news.
Ranked as a top-75 player by multiple recruiting services, Jenkins (6-foot-2, 175 pounds) has been in the Class of 2026 for much of his recruitment process, but now says he will reclassify to 2025, and is thus expected to come to Morgantown soon to join the Mountaineers and begin preparing for the upcoming season.
Jenkins is polished with the ball, changing directions and speeds with quick cuts while keeping firm control of the rock. He is a difficult guard in the open court, pushes the ball aggressively in transition and caps that portion of his game with good vision and excellent passes that often lead to buckets.
He's also creative off the dribble and doesn't waste time pounding the ball in place. He attacks defenders with purpose and shows great consistency in making the right decision with the ball.
On the adidas Select Basketball 3Stripes circuit (3SSB), the Worcester Academy and North High School (Massachusetts) product has been a dynamic force, running his team as a seasoned playmaker while also getting to the hoop with a series of slashing, shifty moves. He continued a meteoric rise up the prep hoop rankings last year with a selection to the USA Basketball men’s Under-18 3X3 team in the FIBA World Cup.
As a junior at North High School, Jenkins averaged 14 points, four assists, 2.5 steals and four rebounds per game to power a perfect 24-0 season and a second consecutive Massachusetts state title. That continued an unbeaten string of 45 consecutive wins for the Polar Bears.
Jenkins had offers from Wake Forest, Mississippi State, Maryland, Xavier, Georgia, Virginia Tech, Arizona State, Creighton, Boston College, Oklahoma State, East Carolina, Providence, South Florida, George Washington, St. Bonaventure, San Diego, St. Louis, Albany and Bryant.
He took an official visit to West Virginia last week and is the fourth high school commitment in the class, joining Jayden Forsythe and Deandre Thomas. MJ Feenane has also committed to the Mountaineers as a walk-on.
That quartet joins eight transfers and 2024-25 holdover Abraham Oyeadier on WVU's anticipated 2025-26 roster. The men's roster limit is 15 for the upcoming season, but WVU will not have more than 13 players on scholarship this season.
