Patrick Morrisey walks down the aisle to give his State of the State address in the House of Delegates chamber in the West Virginia State Capitol in ÂÒÂ×ÄÚÉä, Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2026.

As primary season heats up in West Virginia, Gov. Patrick Morrisey has been making a splash in waters which his predecessor, now-Sen. Jim Justice, R-W.Va., rarely swam.

Aside from endorsing former West Virginia Delegate and now-U.S. Attorney Moore Capito during Capito's failed bid for the 2024 Republican gubernatorial nomination, Justice has largely stayed out of state-level primary races.
