Although the record-setting $1.8 billion Powerball jackpot was not won in West Virginia, the state still produced winning tickets, including one worth $1 million, a $100,000 ticket, and two $50,000 tickets during the 42 consecutive drawings — the longest in game and lottery history.
“While we didn’t hit the jackpot here in West Virginia, we had players with big wins and that is quite exciting,†West Virginia Lottery Acting Director David Bradley said in a news release.
The Associated Press reported Powerball players in Missouri and Texas won the nearly $1.8 billion jackpot Saturday, overcoming astronomical odds to end the lottery game’s three-month drought without a big winner.
The winning numbers were 11, 23, 44, 61, and 62, with the Powerball number being 17.
The $1 million ticket from Saturday’s drawing was sold at 7-Eleven in the Hedgesville, Berkeley County. It matched all five numbers but not the Powerball, and Power Play wasn’t purchased.
The $100,000 winning ticket from the Sept. 3 drawing — purchased through the West Virginia Lottery iPlay app — matched four numbers plus the Powerball, and the Power Play was purchased, doubling the original winning amount.
The state’s first $50,000 winner hit on Aug. 30, matching four numbers plus the Powerball, but the Power Play was not purchased. That ticket was purchased in Morgantown.
The second $50,000 ticket was from Saturday's drawing, again matching four numbers plus the Powerball without the Power Play purchase. That ticket was purchased in Linn, Gilmer County.
The winners of these tickets should call the West Virginia Lottery office at 304-558-0500 for information on how to claim.
