The West Virginia House of Delegates approved a bill Friday crafted to keep the state’s coal-fired power plants operating through the end of their planned lifespans, but not before adding a provision aimed at helping communities where plants have already closed.

Senate Bill 542 would still require coal-fired power plants owned by public electric utilities to keep at least 30 days of coal supply under contract for the lifespan of those plants.
