West Virginia University finished 42nd in the final Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup standings for the 2024-25 school year, marking the Mountaineers' fifth-best finish in school history and their best since a 40th-place finish in 2010-11.
The Directors’ Cup is a measure of NCAA Division I institutions' overall success in athletics.
WVU’s 42nd-place finish is nine spots higher than last year’s 51st-place finish.
WVU scored a perfect 100 points for its national championship in rifle and 90 for its national runner-up placement in women's cross country. It also notched scores in nine other sports, including:

Wrestling -- 55
Men's soccer -- 50
Women's basketball -- 50
Indoor track and field -- 49.5
Outdoor track and field -- 49.5
Gymnastics -- 37
Women's soccer -- 25
Football -- 25
The Mountaineers’ best overall cup finishes were a school-best 30th place in 2007-08, 37th in 2009-10, 40th in 2010-11, 41st in 1997-98 and 42nd in 2024-25.
West Virginia finished as the sixth-highest-ranked Big 12 school in the final standings. BYU (25th), Oklahoma State (29th), Arizona State (34th), TCU (38th) and Texas Tech (40th) were ahead of the Mountaineers, but WVU bested Arizona (43rd), Baylor (52nd), Iowa State (56th), Utah (60th), Kansas (65th), Colorado (69th), Houston (72nd), Kansas State (79th), UCF (83rd) and Cincinnati (125th).
The Learfield Directors’ Cup was developed by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA). Points are awarded based on finishes in NCAA championship events.
