As the number of U.S. measles cases continue at a record high, West Virginia Gov. Patrick Morrisey has not backed down from his January executive order loosening the state’s strong school vaccine laws by allowing religious and philosophical exemptions for the shots.

At a news conference last month, Morrisey said his administration is "not aware of one shred of evidence†that the state allowing religious exemptions would have negative consequences on residents’ health.
