WILLIAMSON — The man accused in a West Virginia trooper's shooting death has filed a motion to continue his trial that was scheduled to begin later this summer.
Timothy Kennedy was charged in connection with the June 2023 shooting death of WVSP Trooper Cory Maynard, which lead to a multi-county manhunt and even halted high school graduations.

According to Mingo County Circuit Court representatives, the tentative dates for the trial included a motion hearing set for July 15, a final pretrial set for Aug. 14 and the trial set for Aug. 18. Those dates have been moved to Sept. 2 for pretrial motions, Nov. 12 a final pretrial motion, jury selection to start on Dec. 1 with the trial to start on Dec. 8.
HD Media also was told Kennedy requested a change of legal counsel from his previous representation of Matthew Victor and Shawn Bayliss. Kennedy was previously denied bond at a hearing on March 6, 2024.
Kennedy, 31, faces five charges including two counts of attempted murder, one count first-degree murder, one count armed robbery and one count disarming a police office. He is currently being held at Western Regional Jail.
