Hot weather

Tim Huff takes a water break during a roofing job at Ruffner Elementary School in ÂÒÂ×ÄÚÉä on Monday, June 29, 2026. At around 10 a.m., the temperature was already at 80 degrees with 85% humidity. Huff — who works for Harris Bros. Roofing of ÂÒÂ×ÄÚÉä — said he drinks at least a gallon of water during his 10-hour shifts on hot days like we're expected to see in the Kanawha Valley through the weekend, with temperatures in the high 90s each day.

The ÂÒÂ×ÄÚÉä area could come close to triple-digit high temperatures as a heatwave moves into the Kanawha Valley, and cooling centers have opened.

There is a heat advisory in effect for ÂÒÂ×ÄÚÉä from 11 a.m. Tuesday until Friday at 10 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.
