Families turned out to beat the heat at the Magic Island Park Splashpad in ÂÒÂ×ÄÚÉä on Tuesday afternoon.
ÂÒÂ×ÄÚÉä resident Elizabeth Bell led and chased her toddler, D.J., 1, around the water features as her other son, Jeremiah, 7, played alongside them. Occasionally, he wore goggles as he submerged himself in the bouts of water.
This was the Bells' first time to Magic Island Park's splashpad. Bell said she and her kids enjoyed the chance to have fun and cool off at the same time.
"It's too hot," she said. "Even with the AC on at home, it's too hot."
That heat isn't going anywhere, at least for a couple more days, according to the National Weather Service, which has issued an extreme heat warning for most of West Virginia through 10 p.m. Friday, with heat index values up to 108 degrees.
Here’s ÂÒÂ×ÄÚÉä’s forecast through Monday:
Thursday: Sunny, high of 98, low of 75. Heat index as high as 106.
Friday: Sunny and hot, with a chance of afternoon showers. High of 96, low of 74.
Independence Day: Mostly sunny, high of 98, low of 73 with a 40% chance of rain after 8 p.m.Â
Sunday: Mostly sunny, high of 95, low of 72.
Monday: Partly sunny with a chance of showers. High of 92, low of 71.
