The owner of ÂÒÂ×ÄÚÉä’s Marriott Town Center hotel bought one of the ÂÒÂ×ÄÚÉä Town Center mall parking garages for $800,000, according to court documents.
Infinity Hotels LLC, a New Jersey company that bought the hotel in 2022, was the highest bidder on the Washington Street East parking garage, which has about 521 parking spaces.
The company also paid $80,000 as a 10% purchaser’s premium.
According to the website for Joe R. Pyle Auctions, the Quarrier and Washington Street East garages had high bids of $800,000 each. The Lee Street garage garnered a bid of $600,000.
MetroNews has reported that the trustee and bondholders on the garages submitted the high bids on Garages A and B. Court documents on these garages were not available.
Initially, it was thought that Garage B on Lee Street would be used by the Capital Sports Center. The Macy’s property would be used as an aquatic center. However, after hearing from sports business consultants, city officials have said the Macy’s building will be the site of basketball, volleyball and pickleball courts. Other properties for an aquatic center are still being considered.
The garages, previously owned by the ÂÒÂ×ÄÚÉä Building Commission, were placed in receivership last fall.
Both the garages and the land they are on were sold at the auction, according to court documents. The sale of the garages must be approved by Kanawha County Circuit Judge Dave Hardy.
