The top two floors of the ÂÒÂ×ÄÚÉä Town Center mall's Quarrier Street Garage have been closed by the City of ÂÒÂ×ÄÚÉä after a loose concrete slab was reported.
According to city spokesperson Tina Stinson, the ÂÒÂ×ÄÚÉä Fire Department responded to a call about the concerns early Friday morning.
Rick McElhaney, Metro 911 deputy director, said a mall security guard called with a concern about a 6-by-12-foot concrete slab that had shifted and was coming off the wall.
As a precaution, the garage was temporarily closed for an inspection by the City Engineer. Following the assessment, the top two floors of the six-story garage were closed “out of an abundance of caution†until repairs are completed. The garage operator told the city officials that a garage restoration project is slated to begin June 23. The project will include repairs in the area of concern.
The Quarrier and Lee Street parking garages were purchased in 2024 by their trustee and bondholders with a credit bid of $600,000 out of the $12 million they were owed on the garages.
