West Virginia lawmakers passed a law last month aimed at increasing the state’s flood resiliency. But because of that law, Senate Bill 677, officials might have to wait longer for a flood plan without money secured for a newly created flood resiliency trust fund.

State Resiliency Officer Bob Martin told a panel of lawmakers during a legislative meeting last week that, rather than having an update to the 19-year-old, 365-page flood protection plan in December, officials must rewrite and create a new flood resiliency plan by June 30, 2024.
