On a rainy Wednesday morning in October, Mary Baker battled traffic to get to St. Marks United Methodist Church in downtown ÂÒÂ×ÄÚÉä, where she would spend about an hour making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.

“Did you see the people that came this morning?†Baker asked. “That’s why [I come]. Because they’re hungry.â€
