A ÂÒÂ×ÄÚÉä man pleaded guilty Monday to the misdemeanor charge of negligent homicide after striking and killing pedestrian Carl Wiley with a vehicle on May 10.

Brandon Scott Turley-Ward, 29, fell asleep at the wheel around 1 p.m. that day at the intersection of Washington Street East and Bradford Street, according to statements from him and his attorney. He ran a red light and struck Wiley who was in the crosswalk.
Turley-Ward stayed at the scene and attempted to assist Wiley, he told Kanawha County Circuit Court Judge Dave Hardy.
An obituary for a Carl Edward Wiley from ÂÒÂ×ÄÚÉä says he died on May 21. A Keller Funeral Home representative said that Wiley was hit by a car.
Police found no evidence Turley-Ward was under the influence of any drugs or alcohol, Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Ryanne Ball said.
The misdemeanor charge was brought by a Kanawha County grand jury.
Turley-Ward’s sentencing is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Feb. 12. He faces a maximum penalty of not more than a year in prison and/or a fine between $100 and $1,000. The driver’s license of a convicted person is revoked.
