WVU offensive linemen (from left) Landen Livingston (67), Walter Young Bear (54) and Nick Krahe (52) drop back to block during an NCAA football game against Robert Morris on Saturday, Aug. 30, 2025, in Morgantown.
The last time West Virginia made the trip from Morgantown to Athens, Ohio, to play football was in 1949.
The average price of milk was 84 cents per gallon and the price for a car was $1,650.
The Mountaineers will turn back the clock on Saturday and make the more than 300-mile round trip to Athens to face the Bobcats.
WVU is coming off a 45-3 victory last week over Robert Morris, while Ohio lost a close contest to the Rutgers Scarlet Knights, 34-31.
Here are a few questions for the Mountaineers in this Week 2 matchup.
Can WVU slow down Navarro?
Ohio quarterback Parker Navarro is a name that not many are talking about in college football.
Navarro is coming off an impressive 2024 season, which saw him post more than 3,400 yards of offense and 31 touchdowns.
Thirty percent of Navarro's yards last season came with his legs in the ground game, as he recorded 1,054 yards rushing.
The Bobcats quarterback had no trouble against a Rutgers defense that finished last season 87th in opponents' average passing yards per game (231.1) and 89th in opponents' average rushing yards per game (162.77).
Navarro capped off his Week 1 performance with 332 yards of offense, with 239 coming through the air, and four touchdowns.
WVU coach Rich Rodriguez tabbed him as "one of the best in the country."
The Mountaineers will have their hands full against a quarterback like Navarro.
Will the offensive line jell?
Rodriguez said in the offseason that the WVU offensive line was among the team units with a question mark above it.
The five linemen who started last Saturday either weren't on WVU's roster last season or didn't start in the 2024 opener against Penn State.
I understand last Saturday was the line's first time playing with each other against someone who's not their own teammates.
That led to some miscommunication among the Mountaineers, allowing Robert Morris to record three tackles for loss and one sack.
Ohio's defense made its presence known last week against Rutgers, as the Bobcats totaled five tackles for loss and one sack.
Ohio also saw three players post more than seven tackles in the three-point loss.
Can WVU improve ball security?
WVU fumbled five times last Saturday, losing four.
"I don't know if we had some loafing going on during the fumbles, because you could see the ball on the ground and all of a sudden our guys [are] speeding up to try to get [it] recovered," Rodriguez said.
If I'm a betting man, Rodriguez definitely increased the intensity of practice when it came to ball-security drills.
The Mountaineers need to make sure that the football is tight to their body and in no way available for the opposition to knock out.
