The following video features body camera footage from Dunbar Police Department officers Adam Mason and Zachary Winters during the arrest of Michael Scott Jr. on July 22, 2022. Scott died after being taken into police custody allegedly due to head injuries he sustained during the arrest in Dunbar.

The Dunbar City Council approved a $100,000 settlement on Jan. 21 for an excessive-force case against the city and its officers — following a separate $2 million settlement in November. But two more cases remain open.

“The types of abuses alleged in this case have no place in our society, much less at the hands of law enforcement,†said Jesse Forbes, an attorney representing several people alleging excessive force against Dunbar Police Department. “These are not the types of actions that should ever be tolerated by the police and our citizens deserve better.â€
